Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer about Gelya Bogatishcheva

As a writer I met quite a few photographers in my life. But Gelya Bogatishcheva impressed me. I saw her talent of capturing the essence instead of taking nice pictures.

“What camera do you use?” I asked

“I don’t know.”

“What do you mean you don’t know?”

“It is not important.”

As I came to know her and her photographs better, I understood the deep truth of this. Millions click, but only a priviledged few have the eye. Whereas others take a fine picture, Gelya Bogatishcheva makes us understand that we have to look better. In avarage photoes you see a moment, a situation, or a place; in Gelya Bogatishcheva’s pictures you see movement, emotion, and why it is worth your while to look and to live.
